BERLIN, PART ZWEI
Righty...
The real reason I had to do this in two parts is that I was doing the original post - meant to be one post - on a train. Now, trains in Britland are on the whole pretty good. Especially if you find yourself on a not very crowded one watch the Britland fields zoom by as you listen to a little Son Volt - all good. Trains also have wifi. More like wi without the fi. It is a patchy at best - so I had to wait to drop the rest of ze german bomb. Where were we? WO WONST WIR?
Right, it was getting towards midnight on the Saturday. We had done and ate good - and we were getting frisky after a few giant - SEHR GROSSE - rum and red bulls.
We scope the East German streets for more scenes of the nightlife. We walk and walk and walk - and nothing. I am about to give up on it. Until, one of those life changing events occurs.
I must say I was skeptical when Big Willz pulled out a crumpled flyer from his back pocket reading, "SOUL DISKO PARTY", and I was more skeptical when I asked him where he got it from and he replied, "Off dem lamposten!"...
The line had been drawn. Soul Disko? Or no Soul Disko?
SOUL DISKO.
A cab was hailed and we pointed to the flyer saying, "Take us der, bitte!" When cab slowed its roll and announced he would not take us further but the place we wanted was just up the dark hill - I wasn't worried.
We walked up the hill to find a country club clubhouse ski chalet type place and they were dutifully pumping out das SOUL DISKO.
And let me tell you - the absurdity of being half cocked in East Berlin with your boys at a SOUL DISKO party was suprisingly liberating. That is to say I danced my Redneck butt off. We got back to our place about 4 AM I believe. We sort of remember the cab ride home.
The next our flight wasn't until 9 PM so it was a very long day of nursing ourselves back to health and waiting for the trip back to Britland. But we saw some stuff anyways. Enjoy das photos!!
